Lemon Grove is just ten miles east of Downtown San Diego via Hwy 94. Lemon Grove, has some of the most moderate climate in the San Diego area. The temperature ranges mid-way between the cooler coastal communities and the higher temperatures of the more inland areas. In fact, this community's mild weather Mediterranean climate was considered the perfect atmosphere for its namesake lemon orchards that dotted the landscape in the 1940s and have since been subdivided into residential lands. There are some newer subdivisions, however, Lemon Grove real estate is primarily made up of older homes, many that are well kept and are a good market for first time buyers or those on an a limited entry level budget.
The commute about San Diego is easy on Highway 94 and the Trolley is a convenient alternative, taking riders to Central San Diego and MissionValley. The bus service and light rail service (the red trolley) are provided by the Metropolitan Transit System. The City´s two trolley stations are located on Lemon Grove Avenue at Broadway and at Massachusetts Avenue. Anyone passing through Lemon Grove by car or trolly should drop into the Lemon Grove Bakery for a taste of it's exceptional cakes and fine pasteries. My favorites have long been their scrumptious apple and blueberry scones.
